Functions of Urban Development Department

Functions of Urban Development Department:
(1) To provide advice to the Government on urbanization, proper use of land in urban areas and land development;
(Ii) to formulate master plans for all urban areas of the country except 4 metropolitan cities viz.
(3) To conduct research on socio-economic issues in the process of urbanization and to determine the place for urban development in the country for future urban development;
(4) to formulate urbanization programs and to co-ordinate the development activities of the sector agencies concerned with these programs;
(5) to act as the focal point and counterpart of the country in implementing the International Technical Cooperation Program of the Department of Urban Development as a human settlement development planning organization;
(6) to organize seminars and workshops for the purpose of creating awareness on physical planning and urbanization and human settlement, and to publish publications on research topics related to urbanization and human settlement;
(6) To provide in-service training to the officers and employees engaged in various organizations on planning and development and
(6) to provide advice to the authorities / agencies concerned with urban development at their request;

Besides, the following police stations under the jurisdiction of the Central Land Allocation Committee of the Department of Urban Development viz. In Siddirganj, Narsingdi and Demra (if any new thana is formed after 1960 or if it is further divided in future, the thana area will also be included) Subject to scrutiny of planned use of land required by government, semi-government and autonomous agencies for land acquisition. Provides no-objection letter.
